Reminisce with Nostalgic Materials, Tactile Items and Memorabilia – Help Carers Engage with People who are Living with Dementia …

Reminisce with Artefacts and Memorabilia – At Happy Days, we are passionate about creating reminiscence boxes and baskets to help care teams engage with elderly and people who may be living with dementia.

Prompting the long term memory can often bring about stories to share and enjoy. Tactile items, photographs, postcards and replica memorabilia are ideal materials to help care teams bring smiles to faces.

Some Tips for Engagement:

Smile – Relax – Help the person feel safe and comfortable.

Set up a comfortable space to show the engagement materials: On a dining table / Coffee table / Over bed table

Sit with the person – Don’t tower over the person

Use plenty of eye contact – Speak slowly and clearly

Introduce the Reminiscence Box – Example: By the Seaside Basket:                                ‘Mary – Have you been to the seaside?’ Show Items – Let the person handle each item. Blow the windmill – Sort the shells – Share the postcards.

Use Happy Days Conversation Card – See Carer Tips Guide – all included in our Reminiscence Boxes & Baskets.

Ideal for At Home – Care & Dementia Homes – Home Care Services – Hospitals – Care & Rehabilitation Centres – Admiral Nursing – Dementia cafes – Libraries – Museums – Hotels, bars and cafes for patrons to share and enjoy.
